TIM DE MAESENEER
Tim is Professor of Saxhorn (band instruments) at the prestigious Leuven University College of Arts campus Lemmensinstituut.
He is soloist in residence with Brassband Willebroek and an ambassador, performing artist for Besson Musical Instruments and Alliance Mouthpieces LTD.
As guest soloist Tim performs regularly with different orchestras around the world, he has been teaching brass and saxhorns instruments at the Academies of Music, Drama and Dance in Ghent and Willebroek.
Born in Belgium to a family of music enthusiasts, Tim started to play the tenor-horn at the age of six. From the age of fourteen, Tim studied in the secondary school of music Leuven – Lemmensinstituut and Kunsthumaniora Brussels.
After fulfilling his secondary studies under the expert guidance of Frans Violet, Tim moved to the Gent Conservatoire where he studied two years with trumpet virtuoso Benny Wiame, later he returned to Leuven to study at the Leuven University & College of Arts under saxhorn specialist Nick Ost where he graduated CUM LAUDE in 2014.
A special mention to Johann De Wind, Tim’s mentor private teacher who always supported and taught Tim with the upmost care.
In 2019 Tim also obtained a Masters degree in band conducting also with highest distinction and later that year he recorded the first Belgian solo album for tenor horn and brass band ‘The Birth of Time Echoes’.
The CD was nominated for solo CD of the year by 4barsrest, Brass Band World and World of Brass. His playing was described by 4barsrest as ‘commanding the attention with an informed perspective of a storyteller’s skill for subtle phrasing, shaded tonal texture and adroit sensitivity.’
